As part of the IEA Wind Task 43 Metadata Challenge, we run a series of public webinars that aim to improve collaboration between Knowledge Engineering experts and domain experts in the area of wind energy. This time, we are joined by Gavin Chait, Lead Data Scientist at Whythawk, in this exciting webinar as he shares his experiences in the development of a commercial location database that has been curated from over 20 million records in England and Wales. Gavin will discuss the challenges faced in restructuring source data that was never intended for research use and the creation of Enqwyre, an open-source software and app that solves these challenges. With Enqwyre, research data collaboration, recovery of non-interoperable data into machine-readable formats, and assurance of source data provenance are now possible.

Gavin Chait is a data scientist, engineer, economist, sometime-traveller, and author. He leads technology innovation and product development on data-driven software services, and researching methodology for improving data curation, analysis, release and management. He has implemented socio-economic research and development projects globally, with a focus on open data and open access research in Sub-Saharan Africa. He is fascinated by the frontiers of human progress: innovation vs ignorance; wealth vs poverty, migration vs stasis. He also drinks a great deal of coffee.
