Key-note talk “How the mind works and how it unconsciously affects our decisions”

In most of our daily life we operate out of our unconscious. When we drive a bike or tighten our shoes laces, when we do the dishes as well as when we dance. Our mind can be understood as a software working on the brain hardware. Neuropsychology and neuroplasticity have shown that both software and hardware are continuously shaped and modified through our lives.

Our judgment on any new situation depends on this architecture. Unconscious bias refer to the non-mindful or blind operation on this architecture. In this brief talk, we will look at the model of the mind proposed in the Tibetan Bön tradition, anchoring it to what we know from western neuroscience. The mentioned tradition offers a simple model to understand in which part of the process unconscious biased are formed and suggests a way to shed light on them.

About our speaker

Salvatore started working in the wind energy group at the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences in June 2022. He studied engineering and worked for about ten years in the aerospace and energy industry and academia as scientist and lecturer.

He also runs his own company, Bareful, whose vision is that every-single-one of us is born bare and yet is already full. Full of bareness in a way, which is actually all we need to live a meaningful happy life! Find out more here!
