Let's improve Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in wind energy science together

Dear wind energy science colleagues,

The Diversity Committee of the European Academy of Wind Energy and The Swiss Wind Energy R&D Network invite you all to join us in our goal of improving Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in wind energy science!

Sign up for the new space “Diversity in wind energy science“ on the new WeDoWind data sharing and collaboration platform using the form below to interact with the global wind energy sector and work together on developing solutions for improving DEI in wind energy science! We want to hear as many diverse views as possible!

Start by contributing to our first challenge “How can Diversity, Equity and Inclusion be improved in wind energy science?“ by October 31st, 2021, which aims to (1) collect your ideas for how to improve DEI in wind energy science and (2) develop clear problem definitions for implementing these ideas. After that, we will choose the most important problem definitions and work out together how to solves them.

To sign up for this space, you first have to create an account on the WeDoWind ecosystem platform, and then you will receive instructions on signing up for this challenge.

Maybe you are wondering……

…..why is DEI important?

  • The wind energy science workforce does not represent the population's ever growing diversity in race, gender and sexual orientation. This is called “under-representation”.

  • “Under-representation” equates to inequality. Equality is the basis of a fair and just society.

  • Our society and some of our (unconscious) biases tend to increase under-representation by strengthening stereotypes or by not listening to under-represented groups enough.

…..why I should care?

  • People treated fairly are more satisfied and therefore more productive.

  • Diverse teams are more effective.

  • Diversity is good for business.

  • Nature needs diversity to survive.

…..what can I do?

  • We can ALL contribute in some way!

  • Help develop guidelines and policies…..

  • Use inclusive language…..

  • Develop a fair recruiting strategy…..

  • Take part in mentoring…..and much more!
